It means that a connection could not be made to the Scheduler. That kind of problem is impossible to diagnose in the context of this forum. It could be that the Scheduler machine is either unavailable or its IP address has changed. Check the name or IP Address that you're specifying in the Composition Settings dialog. It could also be that one of the services on the Scheduler machine has failed, in which case that machine may need to be restarted.
