Grayscale graphics

Has anyone had any luck creating a graphics frame that will convert any image to grayscale. I need this for separating and printing black copy from a FusionPro pdf.

I know if I create the image as grayscale and remove the ICC profile the image will return on the black separation, but when a client uploads the image it returns as a "CMYK" image I have no control over this and I've found no way to convert it in the graphics frame. It would save alot of time just to have a graphic frame that would return a pure grayscale image.

Would outputting at the RIP gray scale help your problem? I'm not sure if your piece is strictly 100K text with the gray scale image but it may work.

We are printing on a 3/c preprinted shell. The client wants to see all the content on a sample pdf but we will only print the black output, so outputting to grayscale will not work. I know you can set the document to only except grayscale but we knew cmyk for the separations.
