Output to multiple files

Am I correct in assuming that if I want to output to multiple files when composing, my FPImposer layout must have its stack count match the number or records indicated in the multiple file field divided by number up in layout exactly?

 

I tried using an imposition with the Infinite Stack box checked and it gave me an error, then defaulted to outputting a single file instead. I also tried to insert a finite number larger than required for a single output file and it also erred, returning a single output file.

 

I was hoping to create 1 imposition that could be used across multiple data files; some with only a few records that would not require separate chunks of output, and others that would. But it appears as if I will need a separate imposition for the "output to multiple file" record sets. Bummer.
