  1. The background I am referring to is a pdf in a graphic box that changes based on info from the datafile. The preview of this image was working and then just stopped. This graphic box still outputs the correct image when composing the file.

    I have now changed one of the images from a pdf to and eps. Brought in the new resource and updated my code. Verified the code is returning the correct resource and the preview is still not showing the background image when turning on preview.

    The "Nothing Works" is me referring to everything I'm trying to work thru why this is not previewing.

  2. Mac 10.12.3

    Acrobat Build:15.23.20056.213124

    Fusion Pro 9.3.36

    I've got a two page pdf with the background on both pages in a graphic box that is a pdf that changes depending on the called item in the data file.

    The preview of page 1 just stopped working, but the output file still shows the background. I've tried re-starting. Deleting and re-creating the image box. Having no other apps running including the bug-a-boo Suit Case & PitStop. Made sure the resource of the image names didn't have weird characters and were short. Heck, I even changed my rule to do nothing more than return the resource (which verifies with the resource)...Nothing works.

    I did create a new pdf with new images boxes and the same files preview correctly. I just have a bunch of rules and position of text boxes in my old pdf and I don't want to start over.

    Any Idea on what else I can check to get this working?

  3. Have you tried saving the file as a pdf? That's all I use anymore and never have issues regarding the file format. I make sure I save with the "Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities" checked so I only have one file to keep track of. Also, you can use multiple pages in one file and use the "<resource>.pagenumber = x;" JavaScript to call any page from the file where "x" is the page you require.

    I don't know if this is a "Best Practice" or not per Marcom, but it has sure worked well for me and has gotten rid of clutter. Also, you have to use the "Open" command or drop the pdf on the Illustrator icon to correctly reopen the saved pdf back in Illustrator.

  4. jwhittaker's solution is a good one, although it may require editing the Zoom section of the Accessibility system preference. Alternatively, I have gotten used to just increasing the font size in the text editor to a readable one for editing and then setting correct font size last.

    This is the solution I have been using. The one issue I've had is that some of my text boxes will have more than one size of font so it becomes rather tedious to increase the size and then get it all back to the correct size.

  5. If you're using Suite Case you might try going into the prefs-> type core and stop the type core. This will shut suitcase down. I have found all my fonts problems have gone away when I use Font Book only to enable fonts that I need. FYI: Fonts and FusionPro were a constant struggle before this....sucks cause I really like SuitCase to view and manage fonts.
  6. According to the user guide I should see this (magnification percentage) in the lower left of the editor window. I'll I have are the color squares to change the background color behind the text in the editor window and no option to change the view magnification. What am I missing?

  7. Fonts have been a continuous struggle for me and Fusion Pro. I'm not sure why as most all the fonts I use no other apps have a problem with. I just had to convert the USPS BarCode font to a type 1 to get it working again in FP. It was working fine the last time I used it and then it would no longer work and I got garbage in the preview mode....Flushed my font caches, restarted, Adv->reload all, re-launch both Acrobat & FP and nothing works to get the font(s) active again.

    This is on a system that I keep clean and usually only have very minimal fonts installed to start with.

    Now I will confess that normally I run Suitcase to manage my fonts, but when I start having issue it is the first thing I shut down and start activating and deactivating the fonts I need manually by moving them to & from my ~/Library/Fonts. This will sometimes help, but mostly doesn't. Fonts & FP can be a very frustrating experience for me. :(

  8. This seems simple, but it doesn't seem to work. I've got a file with a field that contains different sites. The datafile has been sorted by the Site Field so all the same sites are grouped in the data file.

    Next I created a callback rule "OnRecordStart" and used the following code:

    if (FieldChanged(Field("Site")) == "true")

    FusionPro.Composition.OpenNewOutputFile(Field("Site") + "." + FusionPro.Composition.outputFormatExtension);

    My intent was to create a pdf for every site that contained all the records for that site, but alas, I'm getting just one pdf with all the records. There are no other rules in this job currently and the check box "Output to Multiple files" is un-checked when composing.

    Any help on what I'm missing here? Tks.

    fyi. I'm seeing the type in preview mode outside the text box as well as well as some graphics. Is there a release date on the fix and is the fix from support stable if running on 10.10.5?

  10. My Mac had this bug using Acrobat 11.0.12 or Acrobat DC.

    I have obtained the Patch from support and installed. It is now working under Acrobat DC. I will have to now revert Acrobat when I get the time and re-install PitStop and Prinergy Plug-ins.

    :mad:The Acrobat DC interface is complete garbage!!!!!!:mad:

    :eek:Got the patch email right after I ran the Acrobat update. Sucks to be me:eek:

  11. The WIP was(is) mounted. I had just installed 9.3.22 FusionPro. I was running an earlier version. I also uninstalled by running the uninstaller. The def file is located with the RateSht v1.pdf.

    Trying the Collect now, but it has now crashed 3 times in a row. I'll give my machine another restart after this post and let you know what happened.

    When I try to compose the "FusionPro Composition System" window comes up, but nothing happens. "Status:" shows nothing. "Input File:" shows nothing and all the rest show nothing. The window will not close and just sits there. The only way I can get the window to close is to quit Fusion Pro. The input file is selected in the "Composition Settings" dialog along with the rest of the normal settings choosen.

    I've disable all other plug-ins in Acrobat. Restarted. Loaded fonts. Has anyone seen this and figured out what's going on?

  13. With InDesign, it's the same old story of Adobe requiring completely different development tools to build plug-ins for each new version.

    FYI

    Man, Adobe is just sick with their practices. I got an email early in the morning from Adobe about the 2015 update and it leaving the 2014 apps in place....so I ran the updater. Well, surprise! The default update method, which wasn't mentioned, doesn't leave the 2014 apps. After poking around I found a blurb about having to change some setting to get the install to leave the 2014 apps. Well, I've lost my ability to run the FP Plugin from InDesign... Hopefully I can just manage without it until Adobe decides to let you guys in on their plans and get an update out.

  14. Got a prob. I'm using the

    return CopyfitLine("", Field("Name"), "Adobe Garamond Pro", 11, 214, 6, true);

    It is used in a text resource that I made because the copy changes based on the data file. The resource copy uses the CopyFitLine rule and a image (a signature) that moves with the copy. The problem is when the copy gets shrunk to fit the sig disappears. Otherwise this sig appears as it should. Any ideas?

  16. In the test file that I pulled from this site the pdf file has a rule called "Offer Dates". If you validate this rule it will return the correct values from the csv file "DateMatrix.csv". I took this FusionPro pdf and Imported a data file. Created a text field and assigned some variable values. I left the field alone that was already created in the file and did not move the DateMatrix.csv file that it is calling for the data. Then I output the file. The dates then didn't work and I got "Start Date: -- End Date:" where I should have gotten "Start Date: January 01, 2010 -- End Date: February 15, 2010" in all the records output.
  17. Hi George,

    Since the date is not "predictable" it is difficult to create some kind of automated function. We had to deal with this same issue and through talking with the customer we were able to determine exactly why the dates were the they they were. In turn we found a way to calculate them.

    If there is actually no way to calculate them then somebody needs to enter them somewhere. There are a couple of options:

    1. Simply open the rule editor and enter the date you want to use like this:

    At the top of the JavaScript Globals

    date = "03/15/2010"

    Since this is plain text you could literally enter the date exactly as you want it to appear. Now in any rule simply add this to your result.

    return "Static text before the date " + date + " with the rest of the text after the date."

    2. Shift the burden to the customer for the date entry by formating a small Excel file containing the date. Name the Excel file DateMatrix. Give the customer the Excel file to edit. When they send you the new file save it as a csv file. For simplicities sake save this small csv file in the root directory with you FP file.

    StartDate EndDate

    January 01, 2010 February 01, 2010

    Enter this in the JavaScript Globals:

    //Set the Date Matrix to retrieve the customer values
    //Since it is in the root directory no path is needed to locate the file.
    DateMatrix = new ExternalDataFileEx("DateMatrix.csv", ",")

    Enter this in the OnJobStart callback rule. This will load the value and set the variables once as the job begins.

    //Set the date variables
    StartDate = DateMatrix.GetFieldValue(1,"StartDate");
    EndDate = DateMatrix.GetFieldValue(1,"EndDate");

    Then create a rule called Offer Dates and enter this:

    //Use the date variables entered in OnJobStart
    return "Start Date: " + StartDate + " -- End Date: " + EndDate

    Then place the rule into a text box on your layout. Whatever is entered in the fields in the Date Matrix csv file will be placed in the layout. I have attached a small example file. I hope this helps.

    I pulled your test file and when validating the rule it returns the date correctly...However when you output this after linking to a data file this doesn't work. I discovered this when trying to implement something similar to this and couldn't get it to work.

    Don't the two variables you created ("StartDate" and "EndDate") need to be Global in scope rather than rule specific...or are variables under a "OnJobStart" rule global? I moved my variable to a Global scope, but even when moving my variables to a Global scope I can't get this to function correctly. My rule will also return the correct result when validating the rule, but fails when composing. I'm not sure why that is....?

  18. Ok, I got there taking a different tact. Placed 0's in the empty fields which removes the color section in the pie chart without changing colors. Then I created a rule for "my" legend that removed the line if the value is zero (Of course this could be left to display 0% I suppose).
