Swap out pdf background

I have set up on a complete letter, setting up rules to pull in signature files, also setting up rules to change some fields to upper case. Now I want to switch out the background for the shell imprint and bring in all my rules from that original files. If I just use the advanced, import file, it brings in my new pdf, text and picture boxes, but not any of the rules or resources. Is there a way to bring in all the information from my set up file?

I'm not sure this is what you are asking, but if you re-define your data source using the wizard, and choose the 3rd button for "Import a data source from another document" you can select the .dif file of a previously composed template. This will import all your rules and resources as well as (re)link to the data file the other file was linked to. At that point you can update your data file (if necessary).

I tried this out, but it did not redraw the variable frames. Is there any way to bring them in as well?

Use the advanced, import file(select your old PDF), it brings in text and picture boxes from the old PDF.
