Counting leaves - not pages

I am trying to write out a leaf number in a variable text frame.
In this case, there are 2 pages per leaf.

I could use some thing like this:

leaf = round((currentPageNumber / 2),0);

but I don't see a way to access current page via a rule

Any help or ideas would be appreciated

Also, to add one more level of complexity, I am using overflow pages because each record is a variable number of pages. The leaf counter needs to be on the overflow pages as well.
