Default Making Text Appear Highlighted

Is there any way to make text appear as if it were highlighted?

I have a variable in the middle of a sentence. The variable needs to appear highlighted but it varies in length. We are trying to avoid making a yellow box behind black text that fits the largest variable. It looks awkward when the variable is small.

Thanks.

How many variable options are there? Just a few, or is each record unique? If the former, I would set up the paragraph that contains the variable in a separate application, and save a separate PDF for each variable version, then call the appropriate paragraph as a variable graphic based on a existing or added field in the data. Is that a realistic option for your situation?

Eric,

Excellent suggestion. Fortunately, the variable is a dollar amount, so I can use a rule that compares the amount of characters in the variable or the amount of the variable and return the appropriate background PDF.

I'll check it out. Thanks!
