  1. That's a fascinating idea. I didn't realize the repeat record and find graphic frames could be used in that way. Holy cow. Mind blown! Thanks, I'm going to try that out.
  2. Actually, I just noticed: if I have 2 text boxes (stacked on on top of the other) on my Body page set to Overflow to New Pages, I do get both text boxes overflowing - however, they do so sequentially. So Text Box 1 will overflow and create 24 output pages, and then text box 2 will also overflow and create another 24 pages. The text boxes don't layer.
  3. Hello all, Usually, when I need to stack graphics one on top of another, I simply layer multiple graphic boxes and have each box call different rules. This works fine for templates with static page counts. I now need to do this in a template that has variable pages. So, normally, one would create a text frame and put a graphics tag in it and loop through the number of pages in the PDF. Then put a Body and Overflow page onto the template and turn on Overflow to new Pages and have a target text box on the Overflow page. This doesn't seem to work if you have 2 text boxes layered on top of each other. Only one textbox can be the Overflow-To "recipient" on the Overflow page. So, how can I stack multiple graphics using the dynamic Overflow method? Each of these graphics would have the same number of pages, but on some records the PDFs called can all have 24 pages, and on other records the PDFs called can be 28 pages. Is it possible? Or do I have to manually create the maximum number of pages possible, go to graphic frames and use Page Suppression for pages I don't want?
  4. Hi there, In the .msg file, I get the following errors when my multipage PDF rule fails due to unexpected page sizes from my input files: "The specified Keep conditions could not be honored in the flow <FundSheetText1>. Text is truncated." How can I trap for this error so that I can emit a warning using the LogXML function?
  5. Dan, if you still want the source material, it's pretty large in size, over 50MB. Let me know.
  6. Yup, that seems to be it. The PDF source file has some PDF forms pages that seem to be gumming up the works. Thanks!
  7. Hi all, Can someone explain the cause of the "MergeInAcroForm, , error: Expected a name object." error I sometimes get when composing and pulling pages from a PDF?
  8. I'm having problems with some Adobe Type 1 fonts, such as good old AGaramond (Adobe Garamond). These used to work no problem until I upgraded to 8.1.2. Now I don't seem to have access to AGaramond in my Fonts menu in FP Text Editing dialogs. It used to show up as "AGaramond" in the font menu, now it doesn't show. The Screen Preview rendering of the font is really screwed up on the PDF layout, but looks fine in the Text Editor dialog box. During Output, I get complaints that"AGaramond" is not a loaded font. Output looks just as bad as the Preview. Helvetica looks like hell. Tracking is all screwed up and the letters look stretched. I've tried a couple times to install/uninstall, reboot, reload Fonts, etc. Nothing seems to work, and, this used to work fine under 8.0.x. See attached Screenshot to see what I mean. You can see "Adobe Garamond Pro" listed, which is an OTF font (and is different than Adobe Garamond, so don't suggest I use it But there's no Adobe Garamond, nor is there an "AGaramond". What do I do?
  9. Yes, between Adobe needing a revenue stream from pointless updates, and Apple's annual release cycles, this constant state of flux is going to kill everyone. It's enough to make one pine for XP.
  10. Hi Dan, Doesn't seem to work properly for me under Mountain Lion. ProdActivate seems to barf. (No offence, but I hate ProdActivate.) I'm trying out FP Producer 8.1.2 on a fresh install of Mountain Lion 10.8.1 (running as a VMWare Fusion 5.0 VM). I installed CS 5.5 Acrobat X, updated to 10.1.4 and then ran the Fusion Pro 8.1.2 installer (right-click>Open method). After doing this, launching Acrobat X immediately presents the ProdActivate application. Clicking Register, and quitting relaunching Acrobat does nothing. ProdActivate always comes up. I can edit a template file, however when trying to compose output, ProdActivate comes up again, and composition fails. Not sure if anything in the VMWare Fusion environment might be causing this behavior. For kicks, I uninstalled FP, set the Security Preference Pane to allow any software, fixed permissions, and rebooted a few times for good measure before re-installing. I even redownloaded the DMG for FP 8.1.2 because it complains under Mountain Lion that the DMG may be corrupt. The installer likes to crash on the License Screen until you reboot. Sometimes it doesn't do anything but crash when you hit the continue button.
  11. Thanks! Now I see the link on the expressions page plain as day.
  12. Didn't there used to be a store or a gallery where you could browse different FPX templates and buy them? I'll be damned if I can find it now.
  13. I'd like to keep pages 2 & 3 in the document, since I want to output those for screen proofs for customers. For Press output, I'll suppress those pages with OnRecordStart, which should be the same as deleting them from the file. When I setup the FPI as per your screenshot, I simply get Record1: 1,1 4,4 Record2: 1,1 4,4 How do I get FPI to impose the document as Record1 Sheet1: 4,1 Record2 Sheet1: 4,1
  14. I'm printing simple 4-Impression Newsletters on Ledger sheets. Impressions 1 & 4 are on the front, 2 & 3 are on the back. Fold the Tabloid in half and voila-newsletter In real life, Impressions 2 & 3 are pre-printed shells, so the digital press only ever prints the Front. I need only output 1 Simplex Sheet, with Impressions 4 & 1 side by side. My template has all 4 Impressions, and is setup as Letter size. OnRecordStart is handling turning Impressions 2 and 3 OFF for Press output. (I have them in the template so I can output in reader-spread for Proofing.) I've tried FPImposer with Document 8.5x11 Press Sheet: Ledger Layout: Saddle Stitch as well as Single-Gate SidebySide It works only if I output all 4 Impressions, as if I were going to duplex the job. How do I get imposed output of Impressions 4 & 1 on a Ledger sheet but keep my template as Letter?
  15. Been using 8 under Lion for a couple of weeks now. Seems to work pretty well, though you can tell it's a Java app under the hood. A lot of non-standard UI behavior. A few things have carried over from previous versions: Can't copy text from BBEdit or TextWrangler and paste into rule Editor for some reason. Pasting from BBEdit results in a caret character followed by an underscore in the Rule Editor. Again in the rule editor, occasional flakiness with copy paste, where the copy and paste "go deaf" and do nothing. If you have two documents open at the same time, Fusion Pro will occasionally show you the Rules from the document you were previously in after switching to the current document. Something about Acrobat X's document focus is not transferring over to Fusion Pro. That said, it works well for the meat and potatoes, and generating output seems noticeably faster than previous versions, even compared to running under Windows 7 with similar hardware. Nice job, all in all. Look forward to tweaks, polishes and fit & finish.
