  1. Thanks Dan! I knew I just had to be missing something small. Searched for the wrong keywords! Thanks again.
  2. I have an issue I run into every now and then and I haven't been able to solve it. I'm hoping its an easy fix and i'm just missing something. lol I have an address block (Name, Address, Address2, City State Zip, Country) set up in one text box. And lines are suppressed if empty. Normal setup is 12 points for all, but on several records I have a very long name that only fits if it drops to 8 points. the problem I'm running into is, if I just tell the text box to "overflow: Adjust to fit" it allows the long name to wrap onto 2 or 3 lines, rather than keeping them on one line. I can't reduce the height of the text box because some of my records are 5 or 6 lines tall. i need the long line to reduce the font size AND stay on the one line AND reduce all the remaining address lines to the same font size. Any suggestions? OSX 10.9 VDP 9.2.31 Acrobat 11
  3. Very excited to see this update on the download page! Could someone provide some documentation to cover what this is supposed to fix? Charting? Font issues? various other items? Just would like to know and I didn't see anything on the download page to show that information. Thanks for getting this build out, looking forward to trying it out and hoping I can make a chart and use helvetica neue!
  4. Any ideas on a release date with the patch that fixes the fonts issues. I'm constantly having to re-create layouts I have set up in 9.2 back into the version 6. Client wants to change a font to one 9.2 wont recognize (HelveticaNeue font family is a big one). Anytime I choose helvetica Neue light, it either displays and prints it as helvetica Neue light italic or a couple of times it has been gibberish. It allows me to select the correct font and everything displays corrected in the variable text editor. But changes the font when previewing or printing. And then if I go back to variable text editor, it has changed the font to an italic or bold version.
  5. ScottHillock, I have also sent some sample files to support and am waiting to here back. I am still running a demo version of 9.2.26. Creative Cloud CC and OSX 10.9 Mavs. Charting feature doesn't appear to be working 9.2. This is a big issue for me since, I have a few jobs I run weekly that require simple bar graphs. If I open an FP document created in FP6.2, the graphs themselves work, as long as I do not open properties in 9.2. The title text on the chart doesn't print and instead prints a couple of lines of the source code, but the actual graph looks correct. I've been told if I revert back to VDP Creator 9.1 and OSX 10.8 and go back to Creative Suite 6, the charting should work. I even tried a work around to cover up the fact the chart titles returned code instead of the actual chart title, I got the result I wanted, but not only do I get an error (from the charting) on every record, the document with the graph, 9.2.26 will also not process more than 500 records. For example, if the project is 6,000 records it will process 469 records then report "Processing Complete." But the processing "wheel" on the FusionPro Composition System will just keep rotating forever. I also noticed the field names in the text editor were alphabetical, didn't know if it was a "bug" or new "feature". Understandable that upgrades of this nature are going to cause some issues here and there, but something as big as "charting doesn't function properly" is a big deal. I'm trying to be neutral here, but I have spent months getting my bosses to agree to an entire system upgrade (long overdue), they finally agreed and now I have to go back and tell them we either have to revert to an older system (OSX 10.8 and Creative Suite 6) or just keep using our older versions of software(CS 3 and FP6.2). I am sure the people at PTI are doing their best to resolve these issues and will get them all working at some point, but for now, I would avoid running VDP Creator 9.2, Creative Cloud CC and OSX 10.9 Mavs at this point. If you can.
  6. I'm attempting to insert a variable multiple page PDFs into my document. I have everything working except I can't tell my text box to overflow. I'm pulling in the correct variable PDF, but I'm only getting the first page. When I select the text box and choose "Overflow Options" I select "Overflow text to new pages: and the NEW LEFT PAGE pull down menu is blank and I cannot chose anything NEW RIGHT PAGE only has the option of (None). When I click OK I get "Left page is a required field" and it doesn't allow me to overflow. Any ideas?
  7. Thanks, Dan. I looked around, but hadn't seen that one. I will give it a shot!
  8. I have 5 different variable text boxes. They are basically address info: name, address, city, state, zip. But they are spread out over a section of the page. What I am needing to do is when any of the text boxes overflow I need to make the text smaller for not only that text box, but for the other 4 text boxes, so everything matches. The space I am working with is limited so the font size can vary from 6 to 10 point depending on how long the field data is. Everything I have tried is very disorganized and convoluted. I was wondering if there was something I could do in OnRecordStart to measure out the name and address lines and then maybe call out the proper resources from there? I can get each individual text box to fit, but I need them to all be the same font size. I hope that makes sense? Thanks for you help
  9. My normal letter set up is to bring to export my PDF from InDesign with just my salutation field set to be variable. the body copy of the letter is static. What I notice is the font (same font as the letter body copy) often appears to be slightly bolder on the salutation. Its almost as if it is spreading just slightly. It seems worse on typefaces that have thin serifs, which makes sense. Has anyone else run into this issue, and could you help me resolve please? Thanks
  10. Is it planned on any future release? Or is there any charting software recommended that could create a graphic that would link with FusionPro?
  11. I'm currently still running FPDesktop6.2, but upgrading to 8 very soon. We have set this graph up for a client and they keep adding to what they want the chart to do. they are wanting to have the value of the data point to print directly above the bar in the bar graph. for example: If the first 3 data points are 3, 6 1. they want the "3" to print directly above the first bar, "6" directly above the second bar, etc. I don't think I can do it in 6.2, but didn't know if the charting properties have been upgraded in the last couple of major revisions? Any suggestions? Thanks, Graph image is attached.
  12. Not to push the issue but I just ran my first full test on this project using FPDirect. The composition times are down greatly from using Desktop but still almost 3 hours to compose the 8,000 records. I know the slow down is due the accessing the external files which have approx 100,000 records (used to build tables in main file). Alex mentioned I might be loading the external file in every time that my rules runs. I'm not sure I am. I hope I am, then it could be sped up 'easily'. As I have mentioned, I'm fairly new to javascripting and I'm still learning. But to my eye I am loading the external data in my OnJobStart rule and then I using the data in my rule. If anyone sees where I'm declaring the data each time the rule runs, please let me know and I can try and fix my speed issue. Thanks again for any assistance. Currenty using FPDirect v7.2P1k - demo
  13. I can't really make a blank graphic because the X-Axis info will be different every month and vary for each record.
  14. I do have my OnJobStart callback rule set up to create the file externalBTR externalBTR = new ExternalDataFileEx('/Production/BTR_1500.txt',','); This is where I'm getting confused. I thought I was just loading the external file in once in my OnJobStart and then using that data in my code above. Where in my code am I declaring the new external file each time? Thanks for your help Alex.
  15. I have tried to search through the forums and take the suggestions others have offered and asked regarding this issue. But I'm still learning the coding end and I know enough to know I still don't know enough. I just started running this new project and it builds tables from external data files. Problem is the size of the external files are very large and taxing the limits of FPDesktop. (we will be testing the direct and or server versions soon). The main data is around 10,000, but the external file can be in excess of 100,000 records. when I process the entire file at one time I compose 1,500 records in about 90 minutes. right now we are breaking the data into smaller batches and putting the external data in the same order as the 'main data' file. having that external file small really helps the composing times. doing this brings them down to about 30-35 minutes per 1,500 records. BUT it is an extra step in massaging the data and is has caused us a couple issues down the line. Breaking the data up might be the only way for us the realistically compose at this time, but if someone with a much better javascript/FP eye can take a look and see if I'm looping through the external data more than once (or any other suggestions that might streamline my code) I would appreciate it. I currently have a switch set up to determine how each different line item is entered into the table. The code below just has a small sample, there are dozens of different code options. Thanks for taking a look and any suggestions. if(FusionPro.Composition.isPreview == true || FusionPro.inValidation == true) { Rule("OnJobStart"); } numRecsExtBTR = externalBTR.recordCount; var BTRTable = '<table columns = 4 margins=left:13;right:13;top:28;bottom:28><column width=14000><column width=6100><column width=4900><column width=4900>'; recordWalker=1 externalBTR.FindRecord(recordWalker, Field("KEY")); while (recordWalker <= numRecsExtBTR) { var TransID_BTR; TransID_BTR = (externalBTR.GetFieldValue(recordWalker, 'KEY')); if (TransID_BTR == Field("KEY")) { switch ((externalBTR.GetFieldValue(recordWalker, 'RANK'))) { // Prior Bill Amount case "1": BTRTable += '<row><cell><p br=false quad=L>' + (externalBTR.GetFieldValue(recordWalker, 'Trans_Descript')) BTRTable += '<cell>' BTRTable += '<cell><p br=false quad=R>' + "$" + (externalBTR.GetFieldValue(recordWalker, 'Amount')) BTRTable += '<cell>' break; // Sewer Charge Adjustment case "33": val = ReplaceSubstring(externalBTR.GetFieldValue(recordWalker, 'Amount'), ",", ""); if (val < 0) { negval = ReplaceSubstring(val, "-", ""); BTRTable += '<row><cell><p br=false quad=L>' + (externalBTR.GetFieldValue(recordWalker, 'Trans_Descript')) BTRTable += '<cell>' BTRTable += '<cell><p br=false quad=R>' + "$" + FormatNumber("###,###.##", negval) + "CR" BTRTable += '<cell>' } else { BTRTable += '<row><cell><p br=false quad=L>' + (externalBTR.GetFieldValue(recordWalker, 'Trans_Descript')) BTRTable += '<cell>' BTRTable += '<cell><p br=false quad=R>' + "$" + (externalBTR.GetFieldValue(recordWalker, 'Amount')) BTRTable += '<cell>' } break; // Dozens of other switch/case options here.... // Do Not Print on bill case "9999": Print(""); break; default: Print("MISSING DESCRIPTIONS"); //close switch } } recordWalker++ } BTRTable += '<row><cell><p br=false quad=L>' + "Total Current Monthly Activity"; BTRTable += '<cell>'; BTRTable += '<cell>'; BTRTable += '<cell><p br=false quad=R>' + "$" + Field("CURRMONTHL"); // Total Amount Due val = ReplaceSubstring(Field("BILLAMT"), ",", ""); if (val < 0) { negval = ReplaceSubstring(val, "-", ""); BTRTable += '<row><cell><p br=false quad=L>' + "Total Amount Due" + " "+" "+" "+" " + "(Credit)"; BTRTable += '<cell>'; BTRTable += '<cell>'; BTRTable += '<cell><p br=false quad=R>' + "$"+FormatNumber("###,###.##", negval)+"CR"; } else { BTRTable += '<row><cell><p br=false quad=L>' + "Total Amount Due"; BTRTable += '<cell>'; BTRTable += '<cell>'; BTRTable += '<cell><p br=false quad=R>' + "$"+FormatNumber("###,###.##", val); } BTRTable += '</table>'; //Print(BTRTable); return BTRTable;
