Emergency-swap out static PDF?

Job is running behind. Customer just replaced my static PDF background. Is there any way to replace my background art without having to re-do all of my text boxes from scratch in the new PDF????

Yes. You can export a new PDF and overwrite your existing one. The static items will change but the variable stuff won't.

 

Save a copy of your PDF that has all the variable stuff set up before you do this in case I don't explain it well. I'd hate to be responsible for setting you back even more.

 

If you are working in InDesign, just update your art and export from fusion pro and keep the file name the same. It will let you know that your variable boxes will not change in the resulting PDF. When the exported file opens automatically in Acrobat, click no when it asks if you want to replace the paragraph styles in the document.

 

That should do it. Hope this helps.

No actually I am working right in Acrobat. There is probably a downfall in doing this. I was wondering if Fusion Pro had the ability to update the PDF or somehow copy the data into a new PDF.

In acrobat, open your new static doc... under the fusionpro menu - go to advanced and import... select your previous file. this will bring in all of the formatting for you.

That worked perfectly. I know there was probably a way to do it. Doesn't make sense if you couldn't. Lots of headaches. Anyway you saved me a bunch of work and we may still get this mailing out...Now if they only stop changing either the data file or artwork we can run this. :-)
